Why every successful person has a mentor behind them

Posted by Paul Wilson

When you think of a mentor, who do you think of?

Most people think of someone in their industry who has helped them along their career path.

But in reality, a mentor is anyone close to you from whom you seek advice.

In the journey of life we’re often faced with big decisions or the need to take action about an issue or opportunity.

A mentor can help you to make the right decision and can be a sounding board to bounce ideas off.

Regardless of who they are, if you want to be successful in what you do, you need mentors around you.

What does a mentor do?

Basically, they help you to achieve your goals by building and maintaining momentum, assist in setting the course and keep you on track.

Anyone who is successful will have undoubtedly had someone guide them in achieving their goals.

True mentoring is more than just answering questions or giving random advice; it’s about an ongoing relationship.

As much as books and news articles can be helpful, they lack the context you need to make the decisions pertinent to you.

And if you’re just starting out in property investing, it’s wise to have someone who you can talk to.

The right mentor is someone you can trust, who you respect, and who has the capacity to identify and extract your maximum potential to help you to achieve the success to which you aspire.

They will listen to your thoughts and ideas, determine where you’re at and offer advice to help you avoid making mistakes that they may have made themselves or observed others making.

Building wealth through property can be at daunting task at times, especially when you see some people have been doing it for a long time and have amassed quite large portfolios.

But even the most experienced investors still need a sounding board to discuss ideas and work through issues.

If you want to be successful, you need a mentor

If you look at any famous or successful person in the media, you will find they had someone who helped them on their journey.

The knowledge that they gained will have more than likely been passed on to them from someone they trusted and looked up to.

When it comes to property investing, engaging a mentor can guide you in defining your goals, determining your strategy and keeping you on track, ensuring that you don’t lose momentum along the way.

A good mentor will also ensure that you have access to other experts who can direct you in areas where specific qualified advice is needed e.g. in the areas of finance, insurance, finance structuring and asset protection.

All you need to do is ask, listen and follow the path.

Finding the right mentor for you

The right mentor should offer you an easier and more focused path to achieving your goals.

They should be the devil’s advocate, support team and the cheer squad behind you every step of the way, giving you the confidence you need to make decisions.
